A Public Transit Service for the Chaleur Region

Good news! The Chaleur region is getting ready to launch a modern, accessible public transit service designed to better connect our communities, make daily travel easier, and offer a practical, affordable, and sustainable way to get around.

After several years of discussion and planning, the project is moving forward! It will begin within the City of Bathurst, in collaboration with the Northwest Regional Service Commission (NWRSC) and their public transit service FlexGo.

FlexGo, already well established in other parts of New Brunswick, offers a flexible and user-friendly transportation model that adapts to the needs of passengers. The rollout of the new transit service in the Chaleur region will take place in three main phases:

Phase 1 – January 2026

The service will launch in Bathurst, offering a door-to-door transportation system that allows residents to travel anywhere within the city limits.

Phase 2 – January 2027

The service will expand to Belle-Baie and Belledune, combining fixed routes and on-demand service to better serve residents in surrounding areas.

Phase 3 – January 2028

The service will extend to the Chaleur Rural District, connecting rural communities with urban centres and improving access to local services, businesses, and activities.

This initiative represents an important step forward for mobility in the Chaleur region, helping everyone — workers, students, seniors, and families — move around more easily and safely.

Stay tuned! More details about the service, routes, and schedules will be shared as the project moves forward.
