Bathurst, May 29, 2026 — The Chaleur Regional Services Commission (Chaleur RSC) officially kicked off the 2026 summer tourism season yesterday afternoon during a vibrant event at Le Néctar restaurant in Bathurst. The gathering brought together tourism partners, municipal officials, business owners, community organizations, and media representatives to celebrate the start of another promising season for the region.
With tourism outlooks especially encouraging this year, the Chaleur RSC took the opportunity to unveil the 2026 tourism guide along with the region’s summer festival listings. “Once again this year, the tourism guide showcases stunning photography, information on tourist attractions, activity suggestions, and a multitude of QR codes providing quick access to additional information on the Chaleur Tourism website,” said Shirley de Silva, Director of Economic Development and Tourism at the Chaleur RSC.
Ms. de Silva also referenced a recent survey by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) which revealed that 9 out of 10 Canadians plan to travel this year, with 92% intending to take at least one domestic trip. She noted that views this trend represents an excellent opportunity for regional destinations such as the Chaleur region.
The Chairman of the Chaleur RSC, Michael Willett, echoed this optimism while emphasizing the importance of collaboration in the region’s tourism development. “Tourism plays an essential role in the economic vitality of our communities. Every visitor who chooses the Chaleur region contributes directly to supporting our local businesses, events, and jobs,” he stated. He also took the opportunity to recognize and thank the partners, volunteers, and entrepreneurs who make it possible to offer tourists an authentic and welcoming experience.
Also present at the event, Bathurst Mayor Kim Chamberlain highlighted tourism as a key driver of municipal growth and community vitality.
“Every summer, the Chaleur region welcomes thousands of visitors eager to discover our breathtaking landscapes, vibrant festivals, rich culture, and renowned hospitality. The impact on our businesses, our restaurants, and our communities. We are proud to work alongside our regional partners to continue showcasing the Chaleur throughout New Brunswick and beyond,” said Ms. Chamberlain.
