Resident Support Worker
POSITION SUMMARY
The Resident Support Worker plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis. This position involves creating a safe and welcoming environment while ensuring the well-being of shelter residents with a housing-first approach.
DUTIES AND/OR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and check in residents upon arrival;
- Assist the intake process for new residents, including orientation to shelter policies and procedures;
- Assist with the orientation of new residents to shelter rules, routines, and available services;
- Prepare and provide meals, snacks, hygiene products, and clothing as needed;
- Support and build relationships with shelter residents, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment;
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to residents, helping them navigate their challenges in finding housing;
- Work with clients to help them move forward in their housing plan;
- Accompany clients to appointments where appropriate on an as needed basis.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in social services or related fields is preferred;
- Strong understanding of harm reduction and trauma-informed care;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an emphasis on active listening;
- Compassionate demeanor with a genuine desire to meet others where they are at without judgment;
- Ability to handle crises calmly and professionally while maintaining confidentiality;
- Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends;
- Bilingualism is a must – English and French.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position requires full availability to meet the operational needs of the Harbour of Hope;
- The Harbour of hope operates twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. Typically twelve hours per shift.Work schedules operate on a rotating schedule and are assigned based on operational needs;
- Schedules may include evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays;
- Shift assignments and rotations are subject to change to ensure continuous site coverage..
