Job Offer - Support & Safety Officer

 

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Support & Safety Officer is responsible for promoting a safe, respectful and supportive environment for participants, staff and visitors. The position combines site monitoring and safety responsibilities with participant engagement, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and day-to-day support. This person will work collaboratively with case workers and other team members and will help maintain the program expectations by fostering positive relationships and supporting participant well-being.

 

REGULAR DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure a visible and proactive presence throughout the site;
  • Foster a safe and respectful environment;
  • Ensure the safety of the site by conducting regular surveillance rounds at designated areas;
  • Greet participants, visitors and partners in a professional and respectful manner;
  • Observe, document, and report incidents, safety concerns, or risky behaviors;
  • Intervene in conflict situations using de-escalation and problem-solving techniques;
  • Support participants in their daily needs and direct them to appropriate resources;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, case managers and other team members to ensure consistent follow-up with participants;
  • To apply the organization's policies, procedures and regulations in a fair and consistent manner;
  • Respond to emergency situations according to established protocols;
  • Write incident reports, observation notes and other required documents;
  • Conduct security checks of premises, equipment and access;
  • Encourage a positive climate that promotes respect, inclusion and well-being of participants;
  • Assist with the admission, orientation or departure of participants when required;
  • Participate in team meetings, training and professional development activities;
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by management.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Perform light maintenance tasks to ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and functional;
  • Complete routine cleaning duties in common areas, entrances, offices, and outdoor spaces as required;
  • Report maintenance concerns, hazards, repairs, or equipment issues to management and overall site operations regarding safety;
  • Assist with facility upkeep, including garbage removal, organizing storage areas, and maintaining outdoor spaces;
  • Ensure walkways, entrances, exits, and emergency access points remain safe and accessible;
  • WINTER: snow shoveling, salting, and ice control during winter weather conditions;
  • Other responsibilities may be added by management if needed to assure all necessary safety concerns of the organization.

 

EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS USED

  • All materials and equipment used to complete the work;
  • Wear a walkie-talkie, panic button and naloxone pouch (at all times);
  • May be asked to handle dirty and heavy objects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Be compassionate;
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Have a calm, professional, and respectful approach during challenging situations;
  • Have strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills;
  • Ability to maintain sound judgment and the ability to make decisions independently;
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries;
  • Be reliable, punctual and have a strong work ethic;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism;
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment;
  • Basic maintenance and housekeeping skills are considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and homelessness services considered an asset;
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset;
  • Valid driver's license is considered an asset;
  • Criminal verification is required.

 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Salary: Between $22.00 and $24.50 per hour;
  • 35 to 40 hours per week;
  • Comprehensive benefits package;
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
