Tourism Development Specialist

 

The Chaleur Regional Service Commission is seeking a person to fill the position of “Tourism Development Specialist” to become an integral part of collaborative regional services. This person’s mission will be to bring together all key stakeholders through a shared vision and, together, coordinate initiatives aimed at stimulating and improving the prosperity and quality of life of all citizens of the Chaleur region, in addition to offering visitors unforgettable travel packages and experiences. This person will play a strategic role in attracting investment and supporting regional partners and operators.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development and updating of strategic directions in tourism development;
  • Plan and coordinate the implementation of actions arising from the strategic plan using an action plan;
  • Organize and facilitate sector meetings, consultation tables and committees related to tourism development;
  • Develop and maintain databases and information tools;
  • Carefully monitor programs, support resources, and tourism and economic trends;
  • Provide support services to operators and promoters in the region;
    • Educate all key stakeholders in the tourism industry on evolving trends, new developments and opportunities in the tourism market, findings from performance indicators in place, etc.;
    • Coordinate the implementation of training sessions for tourism operators based on their needs.
    • Support the Economic Development Specialist in all files that could stimulate investment and job creation, as well as workforce attraction, by providing all necessary tools to promote the unique quality of life in the Chaleur region;
  • Coordinate all marketing projects, such as establishing the activities and events calendar, developing promotional and advertising materials, advertisements, news releases, etc., according to the allocated budget.
  • With the support of the Communications Director:
    • Manage tourism content on the CSR Chaleur website;
    • Produce tourism content to be shared through blogs and the Office’s various social media platforms;
    • Organize all press conferences and other media events related to the regional tourism industry, including the preparation of news releases.
  • Represent the official brand image and its organizational values at all times;
  • Establish positive relationships with all key stakeholders in the Chaleur region’s tourism industry, including tourism businesses, member municipalities and the media, to ensure the effective implementation of the region’s strategic tourism development plan.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a field related to tourism or regional development;
  • Experience managing employees and teams (asset);
  • Good knowledge of the Chaleur region (asset);
  • Knowledge of municipal and regional issues (asset);
  • Initiative, creativity and innovation;
  • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written;
  • Proficiency with computer tools (Windows, Microsoft Office suite);
  • Experience in photography and Photoshop (asset);
  • Good understanding of recognized tourism development practices and strategies.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Salary according to the current salary scale: $81,926 to $97,450;
  • Schedule: 35 hours per week - occasionally, the person will be required to work evenings and weekends;
  • The person must have their own vehicle and a valid driver’s license;
  • The person must be available to travel outside the Chaleur region occasionally;
